When Steve Wynn stopped in at the Christie's sale in Hong Kong on Tuesday, everyone there who recognized him thought they knew what he was about. The man who buys art in bulk to hang on the walls of his two thousand plus room hotel and casino, the Wynn Las Vegas, laid down ten million dollars for a Ming Vase. Critics assumed it was headed for Sin City, but were surprised when Wynn told them instead it was headed for China. Not to a casino, but to a Macau museum, to be viewed by all.
The Ming vase is from the 14th century and is in prefect condition. Wynn, often accused of buying art "by the yard," surprised many with his charitable action.
