25 local Vietnamese have been prosecuted for gambling by the Vietnamese Investigation Agency. A traffic policeman was among the score of prosecuted for gambling and organized gambling, according to local newspaper Young People. Seven were prosecuted for organizing cockfighting and 17 others for betting on cock fights. Among those organizers prosecuted was Major Nguyen Hoang Son from the Traffic Police Bureau, affiliated with the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department.
The agency claims that Son organized and ran the game at his house in Ho Chi Minh City, with each fight seeing bets ranging in thousands of US dollars, or dozens of millions of Vietnamese dome. Casinos designated for foreigners and overseas Vietnamese are the only forms of gambling allowed in Vietnam.
