Strategy for Red Dog
The only strategy needed for Red Dog is to double on Spread 7 or better.
The player only gets an edge when the spread is 7 or more. At Spread 7, 7 cards will give the player a winning hand. And since there are 13 cards from Deuce to Ace (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, J, Q, K, A), that means that only 6 cards can cause the player to lose.
Spread 7 gives the player a 54% chance of winning and it goes up to around 85% at Spread 11. That means the strategy is to only double on the spreads that give the player an edge, which are 7 through 11. Spreads below 7 provide the house with an increasingly stiff edge and therefore should be avoided.
Strategies for Pai Gow Poker
The important thing to remember about Pai Gow Poker is that the player has to win both hands. Therefore it is good strategy to split up a full house into a pair and a three of a kind. A pair in a two-card hand is nearly unbeatable, unless the card values are lower than that of the dealer. It goes without saying that a three of a kind is good in five-card hand. If a player follows this strategy, they can almost certain of being a winner. However, if the player keeps the full house in just one hand, the other hand will lose and it becomes a push instead of a win.
If a player must decide between either making two average hands or one strong hand and one that is sure to lose, it is usually better to play it safe and go for the strong hand and hope for a push instead of risking your bet with two average hands.
Another strategy involves the rotating bank that is unique to Pai Gow. Since there are six players on the table plus the dealer, a layer gets the option to be the bank every seventh hand at a full table. This is how a player can make really good money out of the game, if the player can afford the risk. If a player decides to be the bank they must come up with at least enough money to cover the bets of all players at the table. This places the player in the position of the casino with everybody else is playing against them, including the dealer. If the banker loses they must pay any losses they incur, but if they get a good hand and win, they l get the whole pot. The casino still gets its 5% commission on any winning wagers, however.
To play Pai Gow and obviously to apply any strategy, it is essential to know the ranking for Pai Gow dominoes.
The Highest pair, or the supreme pair, consists of the two wild dominos referred to as gee, which, if used individually, may count as either 3 or 6 points. Gee Joon is the Chinese name for this pair. Certain non-matching pairs follow in rank.
Wongs are next in rank. Wongs are the combinations that include either the 2 or 12 point domino along with any 9 point domino.
Gongs follow the Wongs in rank. Pairs of either the 2 or 12 point domino along with any 8 point domino make up these combinations.
In case Wong or Gong cannot be formed, the hand is ranked according to the total pip value of the dominos.
Should the player and banker have the same point total, the highest ranking domino is used to break the tie. And if the high dominos are equal, the tie goes to the banker. The second-highest dominos are not used to break the tie with the exception of a 0-0 copy, and that time the tie goes to the banker.
Also you should remember that even though the two wild dominoes together make up the supreme pair, individually they have the lowest rank.
