Baccarat is the most prestigious and the most simple casino game. The goal is to get a hand with the total sum of 9. To count the point just sum up the number of pips on each card. Face cards and tens are counted as zero. For example, if you have a king, a ten and a four, then you have four.
The most popular variant is –
Mini-Baccarat
Mini-baccarat you can’t make decisions during the game, you can only choose what position will win. The goal is to bet on the hand that will get the point of 9 (or 8… or the one with the point that is very close to 9). So, you can bet on a player hand, on a banker hand or on a tie. You can also bet on the two areas at the same time. A hand that has a point of 9 or close to it is called “Natural”. When two hands have equal points it’s a tie.
Sometimes the third card can be dealt face up. First to the player, then to the dealer and to the banker if necessary. There is a third card rule: if the player has 0-5 he draws (if a the banker doesn’t hold a “Natural”), if he has 6-9 then he stands. If the banker has 0-2 must draw (if the player doesn’t hold a “Natural”). Other cases:
If he has 3 and the player’s third card is 0-7,9 he draws, if 8 – then he stands.
If he has 4 and the player’s third card is 2-7 he draws, if 1,8,9,0 then he stands.
If he has 5 and the player’s third card is 4-7 he draws, if 1,2,3,8,9,0 then he stands.
If he has 6 and the player’s third card is 6,7 he draws, if 1,2,3,4,5,8,9,0 then he stands.
There are two offline variants of baccarat:
Baccarat Chemin de Fer
(or railway)
The cards are dealt from a shoe with 6 decks. The croupier shuffles these decks: each player can shuffle them in his turn. Then the croupier shuffles again and puts the decks in front of the player on his left. Then a part of this big deck goes to the player on his right (the dealer, or the banker). Then the banker bets the amount he thinks he can risk, the other players, or punters place their bets. Each player can go bank (it means to play against the amount that the banker placed). Then if there are no volunteers the players just bet. In case the sum of their bets is less than equal to the bank other persons standing round can bet. If the sum is more than equal then the dealer can decline all the odd bets.
The next step – the dealer places four cards face down (two for the players, two – for the banker). The player that made the highest bet is the punters’ representative. Then the player and the banker take their cards. If one of them has nine or eight the game is over. If the punter wins the dealer pays EACH player the amount of his bet. If the banker wins he takes all the punter’s bets. Then the game continues – if the dealer wins he’s the banker again, if the punter wins then the next player is the banker.
But if neither the banker, nor the punter has 9 or 8 then the banker offers another card. For example, if your point (the sum of the pips) is 0-4 then you should accept this offer. Note that the third card is dealt face up. If your point is more than six than you can refuse this card. Actually – you should refuse. In some places you can even get a fine if you refuse with 0-4 or accept with more than 6.
Now the banker should also decide proceeding from: what he has, the card he sees, the punter’s behavior. So, we can say that if the punter seem to doubt then it’s very likely that his point is 5. Now you need only to add 5 to the number of pips you see on the boars and - that’s it. After the banker made his decision it’s a showdown. If it’s tie then no one wins. You just play the next game with the same stakes.
Baccarat Banque
(a deux tableaux)
The first difference between Chemin de Fer you may notice is that in Baccarat Babque the banker’s positions is more stable. The cards are dealt from the shoe with 3 decks (sometimes 2 or 4 decks). The banker remains the banker until all the cards have been dealt.
The bank belongs to the player who bets the largest sum. Sometimes the one who was the first to put his name on the list of players is the bank holder. Then the banker shuffles the deck, then it goes like in Chemin de Fer. After the stakes are made the banker deals 6 cards: two to the player on the right, two - to the player on the left and two to himself
So if there are ten players except the two with the cards(five on the left side, five – on the right). The punters on the left win by the cards on the left side, the punters on the right by the cards on the right.
Any punter can go bank, if two punters go bank then they go half shares. You can go bank only three times. If the sum of the punters’ bets is more than the bank amount then the banker doesn’t have to increase the amount in the bank. In case he loses the punters are paid in order of rotation.
The banker can also accept all the bets. But in such case he has to call all the bets or give up.
