The main goal of the game is to win. Aaah, Queen Anne is dead! Did you know? So, the goal is to beat the house. You win with the hand which point is 21 or less. The value of you hand counts as follows:
2 = 2
3=3
…
9=9
T, J, Q, K = 10
Ace = 11 or 1 (just as you like)
There are no bankers, punter and so on. Just one dealer and 1-7 players. As for number of decks: one, two… up to eight can be used. The cards are dealt from the shoe.
Each player (the dealer included) is dealt two cards: your cards either face up or face down (depending on the casino), dealer’s cards: one is face up, one – face down.
You have natural or blackjack if you’re dealt an ace and a 10-like card (I mean – 10, J, Q or K). It’s usually paid one and one-half times the original bet. If both the player and the dealer have “natural” – nobody wins.
If the dealer doesn’t have a natural then the players can act. You can ask the dealer for another card. In a face up game then you just scratch the table surface with you finger. If it’s a face down game also scratch the table surface but with your hole cards.
If you don’t need more cards then you say that you “stand”. You can also double the size of your bet after you saw your two cards. If you double your bet then you can get only one additional card. To double the bet – just say “double down” (in a face up game) and turn your cards over in a face down game. Then the dealer deals one card either face up (in a face up game) or face down (in a face down game). Some casinos don’t allow you to double any time you please.
If you’re dealt two card of the equal value then you can bet on the second card too. But you can split a hand only 1-3 times. Sometimes you can fold you hand at the very beginning. Then you will lose only half of your bet. Even if the dealer has “natural”. If you fold later then you lose the entire bet.
If you get more than 21 then you lose your hand and your money. If the dealers upcard is an ace then you can make an insurance bet. If the dealer gets a blackjack then you'll be paid at 2 to 1 on this bet. But if he doesn't get a black jack you'll lose your money.
