Game play is basic and easy. The Roulette Wheel has either 37 or 38 slots. This depends on whether or not the wheel has double zero as one of its options. The slots themselves are colored either red or black. The wheel is spun and a marble is released on to the spinning wheel. After the marble has bounced and danced around it will settle into one of the spaces. Whether you have won the game or not depends on how you have placed your bet. The guide below will outline the types of bets that can be made playing Roulette, and the expected payout for the bet.

There are two versions of the game – European roulette and American roulette. The differences between them are not big but significant ones. So, as the roulette has come to the United States from Europe, let us study the European version first.

European Roulette

The European roulette wheel consists of the numbers from 1 to 36 and the zero. As said before, they are marked with red or black. Zero is marked with green. All pockets are identical so the ball has an equal chance to end up in any of them.

If the zero (0) pocket wins, bets on red, black, even, odd, low, and high are lost.

The betting structure of the game is not difficult at all. There are two categories of bets: inside and outside ones.

Inside bet include:

"Straight up bet" - a bet on a particular single number. The payoff is 35 to 1.

"Split bet" - a bet on two adjacent squares. The payoff is 17 to 1.

"Street bet" - a bet on a row (that is three numbers). The chip must be placed on the outer edge of the row. The payoff is 11 to 1.

"Line bet" - two street bets (on six numbers). The payoff is 5 to 1.

"Corner bet" - a bet on four adjacent squares. The payoff is 8 to 1.

Outside bets:

"Dozens" – a bet on either of three squares that represent outcomes from 1 to 12, 13 o 24 and 25 to 36. This is a double bet - it pays off 2 to 1

"High and low" - two squares for the bottom half of the numbers (1 to 18 and 19 to 35). This is an even bet as it pays off 1 to 1

"Colours" - a bet on either of two squares for red and black outcomes. This is an even bet it pays off 1 to1.

"Odd and even" - two squares representing odd and even outcomes respectively. This is also an even bet.

"Columns" - a bet on either of three squares that attached to the bottom of the inside table. This is a double bet.

Different casinos may offer various special bets, so t is better to study the rules of a poker room you are playing at before starting to play.

American Roulette:

The rules of the American version are almost the same except several difference which are as follows:

There are two zero pockets on the American roulette wheel – zero (0) and double zero (00).

There is one more inside bet available that is "Five bet" - a special type of bet that allows you to bet on 0, 00, 1 2 and 3. You do this by placing your chip on the boundary line of the roulette table where the line dividing the two rows intersects.
